SilverFast Quick Tip: Scanning very old negatives

This SilverFast Quick Tip was inspired by a post in our LSI-Forum. Rather than scanning in positive mode and having to tweak the image in Photoshop, SilverFast provides a simple yet powerful solution.

The idea is to scan very old negatives (from 1900’s) with the SilverFast Negafix feature. Usually with film material that old there is no chance to find the correct profile in the already huge portfolio of profiles (120) provided by SilverFast. If you simply don’t know the manufacturer or brand of the negativ you would like to scan, switch to “Linear” in the ASA/ISO pulldown menu from within the the Negafix dialogue and switch to the “Expert mode” interface by clicking on the professor icon.
Now you can remove any kind of colorcast by editing the curves manually either global or in selective channels. There is a movie explaining this process a little more detailed.
