Quicktip: Using customized frame settings as a standard in SilverFast Ai and Ai Studio

I believe many of you SilverFast users might wonder:

How can I change standard frame settings in SilverFast?

SilverFast Ai and Ai Studio offer the option to save frame settings and use it as a standard for all subsequent scans.

Select your frame to be scanned and make the desired adjustments in the frame tab.

For this post I adjusted the scan resolution, scan type and sharpness of my frame (as illustrated).

Next, under the drop down menu “Settings” I select the option “save” and assign a specific name for this frame.

Now the real power here is that you can save specific settings for an entire photo-session, In my case I assign the name “Meran2000”. I can call this settings when resuming my scanning task for this specific photo session.

After saving the setting, you will see the specific name in the same menu (setting)

So far so good, but what we really need is SilverFast to use this frame settings as a standard every time we create a new frame or start a new scanning session.

For this you will open the options dialogue and select the name of the recently saved frame as default setting (in my case Meran2000)

Default setting set to your desired configuration

Then press apply and OK to go back to SilverFast.

All subsequent frames will have the same settings as the one frame you have created and set as a default.

You can take your experience one step further (if you are working with a flat bed scanner only), by creating a set of new frames with this settings, save it and use it with more sets of pictures in the film holder.

These tools have  streamlined many users workflow already, hopefully you can take advantage of them too.

Cheers

    Hi,

I just bought SF Ai Studio 8 and was wondering how I can manage my frame settings, I accidentaly created two with the same name and would like to delete one.

    Thanks,
    A.

    Hi Alexi,

just select the frame to be deleted and hit «control» and «backspace» keys. Hit «shift» key in addition to delete all frames.
You can find a keyboard shortcut list here: http://www.silverfast.com/download/docu/silverfast8keyboardshortcutswindows_en_2012-04-11.pdf

    Hi Christian,
Thanks for the answer. Unfortunately, what I meant was how do I delete a Saved Frame Setting:
Frame > Settings > Save Frame Settings
because when I go to Load Frame Settings, I now have two settings with the same name and I would like to be able to manage the settings I can load.

    Thanks!
    A.

Hi – I have selected a frame to follow this procedure, but I don’t see any “Frame tab” that gives me the dialog box you show here. How do I get to it?

Secondly, I have downloaded the quickstart guide for Ai studio 8, but I can’t find a detailed user manual on the website- please help.

    Dear Mr. Walsh,

this blog entry is describing SilverFast 6.6. With SilverFast 8 the user interface has been changed.
Click on the “frame” button to open a drop-down menu. Here you can save and load frame settings.

General preferences can be accessed through the menu bar on top of the screen.

    Hi Alexi,
Yes, there is a possibility to delete frame sets.
Just hold down the «ALT» key, while opening menu Frame > Settings > Load Frame Settings.
Still holding «ALT» key left-click on the entry to delete.

    Best Regards

  • LSI_Gregoire

You are using the Spanish SilverFast 8 software? The menu named “Marco” includes an entry “Buscar marcos” for frame finding.

    Hi,

I am using SF Ai Studio 8 on my mac (OSX 10.9). I can not delete the frameset I’ve created as you wrote. The Option(alt) is no function.

    Thanks,
    C.C.

    Hi C.C.

I just checked and it’s working for me. Just start holding down the < alt > key before opening the frame menu. Still hold the key and try to load the frame set, you want to be deleted. Click on it and next time you open the frame menu it will be gone. If this still doesn’t help, please contact out support team: http://www.silverfast.com/support
