Most programs have folders where they save the preferences and settings it uses or those of its users. SilverFast is not the exception. It is recommended to back up your preferences from time to time for many different reasons. The most common reason is, should a preference file go corrupt for any reason, it will generate a conflict, which will be repeated every time.
In such case you just have delete the preferences while SilverFast is closed, after you restart SilverFast, it will generate the folder again with the standard preferences.
Probably the most important reason for saving your preferences is to preserve your own settings, customized frames and filters, etc. Let’s say you got a second work station where you will continue scanning and need all your personal settings on this station, probably it will take sometime until you reconstruct all your settings and you might forget some in the process. Or your preferences went corrupt and you have to reset them to bring SilverFast to normal operation (loosing all your adjustments).
In such cases a back up of your your preferences come in handy.
The first thing you must do is close SilverFast, then navigate to the following directory:
Windows 2000/XP
c:/Documents and Settings/Your name/Application data/LaserSoft Imaging/SilverFast
and copy the folder “Prefs” and “Negafix”. Notice that the folder “Application Data” is a hidden folder, you will have to make it visible using the “Folder Preferences” dialogue.
Windows Vista
c:/Users/Your name/AppData/Roaming/LaserSoft Imaging/SilverFast
Again, here the “AppData” folder is a hidden folder and must be made visible using the “Folder preferences” dialogue.
Macintosh OS X
Mac/Users/your name/Library/Preferences/LaserSoft Imaging/SilverFast
IMPORTANT! Do not try to make a preferences folder after SilverFast present any error or conflict.
Preferences from Windows can not be used in Mac nor the other way around.
