SilverFast 8 supports Mac OS X 10.7 Lion – available in August 2011
Kiel, Germany, July 20th, 2011 – SilverFast, the most popular scanner software in the world, is released as brand-new version SilverFast 8. After many successful years, SilverFast will be available completely renewed towards the end of August for the most important scanners of all major manufacturers. With the powerful new SilverFast software images can be created, edited and brought to perfection easily. The patent-pending WorkflowPilot featuring a world‘s first is just one of many new developments that bring significant advantages for the user.
SilverFast 8 is compatible with Windows 7, Vista and XP, and runs natively on Mac OS X systems from version 10.5 (including 10.7 Lion). 32bit computers will be supported as well as 64bit systems.
Users who want to work with SilverFast right now can take current version 6.6 without experiencing any disadvantages. Until the 31st of March 2012, LaserSoft Imaging will offer a free upgrade to SilverFast 8 to all customers who will purchase or have purchased a copy of SilverFast version 6.6 after June 1st. This offer is naturally also valid for SilverFast versions bundled with a scanner device or purchased from a dealer.
With apple dropping support for rosetta in lion I was hoping you would make this announcement, otherwise it wouldn’t work
Thanks 🙂

Will the list of scanners supported be the same?
I have a CanoScan 8000F, for which Canon is not helpful with drivers. Will SilverFast find my scanner without Rosetta?
So, to be clear, does this mean that:
1) Silverfast will finally update their code to be Intel and not just PowerPC? This has been a speed and usability issue for me.
2)Does this mean a 64 application?
1) Yes, SilverFast will be Intel code, no more Rosetta.
2) There will be 32bit & 64bit applications.
There will be no more Rosetta.
We will try to support most scanners that are supported now.
I think the 8000F will be supported as one of the first Canon models.
SilverFast 8 will be released in August and it will run on Mac Lion.

This actually means users having to decide
a) having Lion now, and being unable to scan for a month or so
b) sticking with Snow Leopard, scanning, but craving the new os for a month or so
I don’t like either of these options, and being a paying customer I am a bit disappointed.
Silverfast 6.6 currently does not work under Mac Lion. The software crashes. A March 11, 2010 announcement stated Silverfast is Ready for Lion. It has since been edited to read, “Silverfast 8 is Ready for Lion – available in August 2011”.
The July 20th announcement, however, states:
“Users who want to work with SilverFast right now can take current version 6.6 without experiencing any disadvantages”.
It would be cool if you were able to offer a lite version for users of the SE software that would work on Lion.
I understand it’s the lack of PPC emulation which has caused the Silverfast issue. I’ve spent so much on photography recently that I’m not relishing the likelihood of the upgrade cost to SF8.
There will be a lite version and there will be discounted upgrades for SilverFast users.
More info to come …
I have just bought a plustek scanner bundled with Silverfast SE and have a huge number of slides to process. Please confirm that Silverfast 8 will still work with Plustek scanners or I may as well send the whole lot back!
Hi Caroline, no need to send anything back. I assume you purchased the OpticFilm scanner from Plustek and that’s definitly going to be supported in SilverFast 8. Thanks and Best, JAN.
